I’m sure I’m making you laugh now, boss, but I’m writing down my blather, or, if you like, my reflections or my weaknesses – what’s the difference between the three? – I really couldn’t say – I’m writing to you, and you have a good laugh if you’re not bored. I’m laughing at the thought of you laughing, and that’s how laughing never stops on this earth. Every man has his folly, but the greatest folly of all, in my view, is not to have one.
Zorba the Greek*
A dear friend said that this quote should be posted on my blog. I’m following her advice as she hasn’t led me too astray these many years. I’m alive, aren’t I? And laughing…. mainly because of her (and my other dear friends), endless blather, and my many, many follies.
Exchanged via text during an evening run down communication stream that consisted of snippets of our differing days; we were laughing (taking her emoji use as proof) together and yet very much alone in our personal worlds. Life lessons tell us that laughter is made to be shared. I couldn’t agree more. There are few things more satisfying than a good ol’ belly laugh. But remembering to not limit ourselves to how it is shared… via a text, together, alone, letters, blather, or your poking fun at your own follies.
Keep laughing.
*It is important for me to note that this book is terribly misogynistic. Yes, yes… written in a different era. But seriously, it’s hard to read at times knowing the characters were ‘inspired’ by real people. I’m still working on it.
